I’ve been taking photographs for more than 20 years, and I still enjoy it just as much as I did when I started.

I’m based in Swindon and my photography covers quite a few different areas. I shoot fashion, portraits, commercial work, food and street photography, as well as things that simply catch my eye. I don’t really like being tied to one particular style or subject. If something interests me, I want to photograph it.

A lot of my work with people is about keeping things natural. Whether I’m photographing a model, an actor, a business owner or someone who simply needs a good portrait, I want the person in front of the camera to look like themselves. I enjoy working on location too, particularly when the surroundings can add something to the photograph.

Street photography is something I keep coming back to. I like walking around with a camera and seeing what happens. Sometimes it’s a person, sometimes it’s the light, and sometimes it’s something completely ordinary that looks different for a split second. I’ve photographed in places including London, Manchester and Barcelona, and I enjoy the fact that you never really know what you’re going to come across.

More recently I’ve become a bit obsessed with fungi. I’ve spent a lot of time wandering around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire looking for mushrooms to photograph. They’re surprisingly good subjects — the shapes, colours and textures can be incredible, and you can walk straight past them without noticing them.

I suppose the common thread through all of my photography is simply that I like looking at things. I’m curious, I notice things, and I like having a camera with me when I do.

After more than 20 years, photography is still something I do because I genuinely enjoy it. That’s probably the best reason I can give for why I keep doing it.
